General features
- Also called giant Lambl's excrescence
- Second most common primary heart tumor, after myxoma
- May be associated with endocardial injury, cardiomyopathy or thoracic radiation
- Diagnosed through radiological studies
Clinical presentations
- Usually asymptomatic
- Presentations caused by embolization, or prolapse into coronary artery
- Syncope
- Myocardial infarction
- Sudden death
- Stroke
Key morphological features
- More common on valve surface or endocardium
- Usually small, pedunculated mass on a valve
- Central dense amorphous fibrous core and a surrounding layer of loose connective tissue
Treatment
- Excision
