General features
  • Older adults
  • Cardiac complications: Most common, atrial arrhythmias, CHF and angina pectoris
  • May have osteoporosis if untreated
Clinical presentations
  • Symptoms tend to be subtle and may be obscured by coexisting diseases
  • Placid apathetic faces, depression, lethargy
  • Muscular weakness and wasting
  • Excessive weight loss
  • Arrhythmias
  • Absent or small goiter
  • NO ocular manifestations
Laboratory findings
  • Low TSH
  • Elevated T4, T3
Treatment
  • Symptomatic treatment
  • Antiadrenergic
  • Anticoagulation if atrial fibrillation
  •   Other treatment approach to hyperthyroidism
