General features
- Older adults
- Cardiac complications: Most common, atrial arrhythmias, CHF and angina pectoris
- May have osteoporosis if untreated
Clinical presentations
- Symptoms tend to be subtle and may be obscured by coexisting diseases
- Placid apathetic faces, depression, lethargy
- Muscular weakness and wasting
- Excessive weight loss
- Arrhythmias
- Absent or small goiter
- NO ocular manifestations
Laboratory findings
- Low TSH
- Elevated T4, T3
Treatment
- Symptomatic treatment
- Antiadrenergic
- Anticoagulation if atrial fibrillation
- Other treatment approach to hyperthyroidism
