General features
  • Affects 10% of adults in developed countries
  • Cholesterol stones: Most common
  • Risk factors: “Fat, fertile [multiple pregnancies], forty, female”; rapid weight loss, certain genetic disorders, low HDL levels
  • Pigment stone risk factors: Increased unconjugated bilirubin

Diagnosis
  • Ultrasound
  • X-ray if contains calcium
Management
  • Cholecystectomy
