General features
  • Possible origins
Ovarian pregnancy (gestational choriocarcinoma)
Germ cell tumor (pure or mixed, non-gestational choriocarcinoma)
Surface epithelial tumor with choriocarcinomatous differentiation
  • More common in children and adolescents
  • Metastases common at diagnosis
Clinical presentations
  • Presentation similar to ectopic or tubal pregnancy
Key Laboratory findings
  • Elevated hCG
Key morphological features
  • Soft with hemorrhage and necrosis
  • Microscopically similar to uterine choriocarcinoma
  • Cytotrophoblast, intermediate trophopblast and multinucleated syncytiotrophoblast
Treatment
  • Surgery
  • Chemotherapy
