General features
- Previously named carcinoid
- May be associated with endocrine cell hyperplasia, autoimmune gastritis, MEN-I, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Clinical presentations
- Slow growing
- Carcinoid syndrome and other symptoms associated bioactive factors produced, such as gastrin
Key pathological features
- Small, sharply outlined, covered by flattened mucosa, resemble polyps
- Glandular, trabecular or rarely insular patterns
- Bland nuclei with salt and pepper chromatin, rare mitotic figures, prominent vessels, no necrosis
Markers
- Positive for neuroendocrine markers: Chromogranin A, synaptophysin
- Hormones
